Young adults between the ages of 18 and 24 years old are offered addiction rehabilitation programs developed specifically for this age group. The most comprehensive treatment offered to young adults is at an inpatient treatment center in Atlas which delivers a broader spectrum of recovery services than outpatient programs. Substance abuse issues and co-occurring mental health disorders can be worked on at the same time in drug treatment programs for young adults which have psychologists or therapists on site to treat co-occurring disorders.
Young adults involved in rehab programs which specifically treat their age group benefit from having the peer support available and the compassion of rehab staff who are usually trained and knowledgeable at working with young adults.
The length of rehabilitation can vary for young adult recovery facilities, and this is often determined based off the client's improvement during the program. The more severe the problem is, the longer it may be recommended that the young adult remains in the recovery process. If outpatient rehab is the only recovery option available, this too should be comprehensive enough to meet the client's needs. For instance, there are outpatient programs for young adults which only require the client to participate in counseling and therapy a couple of times per week, and there are programs which require daily attendance.
