Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Treatment Centers - Holland, MI.

There are recovery programs available in or near Holland which service both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, medications which are administered in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist just like heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same neural receptors which make a person feel high from morphine or heroin are activated by these two drugs so therefore an opiate dependent client will ideally not become involved in addict behavior and won't experience withdrawal symptoms. There are dangers with side effects, drug interactions, and even addiction and overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are highly controlled and can only be dispensed in a clinical setting.

Buprenorphine and methadone clients take these medications regularly so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but hopefully at a dosage which isn't at the same time causing them to feel euphoria. Euphoria is possible at a high dosage, more significantly with methadone than buprenorphine. At centers which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are generally limited beyond this and the primary treatment objective is to treat the withdrawal symptoms and put an end to the illicit drug use. Some centers do offer a small amount of counseling and group therapy as auxiliary services, and this is recommended and encouraged.
