Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Rehab Facilities - Newaygo, MI.

There are substance abuse programs available in or near Newaygo which service both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, drugs that are administered in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist just like heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, which means the same neural receptors that cause an individual to feel high from heroin or prescription pain killers are activated by these two drugs so that an opiate addicted client will ideally no longer engage in addict behavior and won't have cravings and withdrawal. There are dangers with side effects, drug interactions, and even addiction and overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are heavily controlled and can only be prescribed in a clinical setting.

Methadone and buprenorphine clients are on these medications daily so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but hopefully at a dosage which isn't also making them feel high. Euphoria occurs at a high dosage, more significantly with methadone than buprenorphine. At programs that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, actual rehabilitation activities and therapies are limited beyond managing the medication and the main treatment objective is to treat the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some clinics do offer a limited amount of counseling and group therapy as auxiliary services, and it is recommended and encouraged.
