Substance abuse programs for Veterans are central for the mental health and overall stability of Vets of all branches of the armed forces. Because alcohol and drug abuse and other mental health disorders are found at above average rates among Vets, it is important that they get the assistance they need because of such high suicide rates also associated with these disorders with our Vets.
Drug and alcohol abuse programs for Veterans in Norway are available from the VA, with included services such as efforts to handle associated problems such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, pain, disturbed sleep, irritability, and/or relationship problems which most commonly trigger substance abuse disorders among Veterans. Rehab for addiction and associated problems among Veterans includes psychotherapies and group and individual therapy that can increase an individual's motivation to change. Involvement in other support such as AA and other support groups is recommended. Medications are also used in some instances to help Vets lessen their drug, alcohol and tobacco use.
Alcohol and drug abuse programs for Military Vets are offered during the evening and weekend hours, with both residential and outpatient programs available. Programs that are gender-specific and those for homeless Military Vets are available in certain areas.
