Drug prescribed are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs which help withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid addicted individuals. An opioid treatment program can receive basic certification while they endeavor to get their full accreditation, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid treatment facilities accredited by SAMSHA need to get licensed also by their own state. In addition, they must register with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA branch. Once an opioid treatment facility is certified, they need to get re-certified each year or every 3 years contingent upon the kind of accreditation that was granted.
