The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department in charge of health efforts to advance the mental health of the U.S.. One of its duties is the administering of opioid treatment programs, which are programs which provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to clients who are experiencing opioid addiction and dependency. Drug prescribed are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs which help withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid dependent clients. Likewise, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration via a local DEA office. Once an opioid rehab program is approved to operate, it must be re-certified every year or every three years depending on the kind of accreditation that was given.
