The longer the person is involved in rehab and takes advantage of services and a sober atmosphere, the higher their chances of remaining sober and being able to do so without needing that robust system of recovery and support. Services at an inpatient or residential drug rehab center are usually more diverse and can involve treatment for addiction but also other co-occurring mental health disorders. Aftercare and relapse prevention services are essential even after long-term rehab, and many programs recommend continued participation in the program for a few months until the person has transitioned into a clean and sober lifestyle.
