The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department in charge of health efforts to advance the behavioral health of the United States. One of its duties is the oversight of opioid treatment facilities, which are programs who provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are experiencing opioid dependency and addiction. Medicine prescribed are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs that help withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid addicted individuals.
