The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department in charge of health efforts to promote the mental health of the United States. One of its duties is the supervision of opioid treatment facilities, which are centers that provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are in the midst of opioid dependency and addiction. Medications prescribed are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs that stop withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid dependent clients.
