The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency responsible for efforts to advance the behavioral health of the nation. One of its duties is the supervision of opioid rehabilitation facilities, which are centers who provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to clients who are in the midst of opioid dependency and addiction. Medicine prescribed are drugs like methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs that stop withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid dependent clients. SAMSHA certified opioid rehabilitation centers in Boulder are programs which are legally permitted to distribute the drugs used in MAT as long as they maintain their certification and continue to meet certain requirements. A requirement that MAT clients must also receive auxiliary services in addition to medicine such as psychotherapy, behavioral therapy or counseling.
