The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department in charge of efforts to advance the mental health of the nation. One of its obligations is the supervision of opioid rehabilitation programs, which are programs that provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to individuals who are experiencing opioid dependency and addiction. Drug administered are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs that help withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid dependent people. SAMSHA certified opioid rehabilitation programs in Jordan are programs that are officially allowed to give out the medicines used in MAT as long as they remain certified and continue to meet certain requirements. An opioid rehab facility can get their initial certification while working towards becoming fully accredited, however, are required to get their full accreditation in a year. Opioid rehabilitation facilities authorized by SAMSHA need to get licensed also by their own state. In addition, they must register with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA branch. Once an opioid rehab program is approved to operate, they need to get re-certified each year or every 3 years depending on the type of accreditation that was given.
