Outpatient Methadone Buprenorphine or Vivitrol - Alcohol and Drug Treatment Centers - Bayboro, NC.

One of the outpatient treatment alternatives for clients in Bayboro struggling with opioid abuse and addiction is opioid maintenance therapy. Some centers and doctors are authorized to dispense specific medications to opioid dependent clients, many of which are opioids also and are addictive. In low enough doses however, the individual does not experience high feelings but also doesn't have acute cravings and is not in opioid withdrawal. Methadone is the first drug used for this purpose, but there are other options currently to choose from.

Methadone is an opioid and is meant to be taken at an outpatient clinic certified to administer the drug, which is taken on a daily basis in liquid or pill form. The price of the drug is approximately one hundred and fifty dolloars a month. Buprenorphine is also an opiate based med, and is a pill often taken one day on, one day off. But different from Methadone which can only be administered in highly well-regulated clinics, Buprenorphine can be prescribed and dispensed in doctor's offices. The price monthly of buprenorphine is approximately $300.00 a month for the generic version of the med. There is also a type of buprenorphine that contains naloxone, that is a med that reverses the effects of opioids. Someone taking this version of the drug, also known as Suboxone, would find it harder to feel high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It too is taken daily, and is priced about $450 a month. Naltrexone is another med taken in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other drugs mentioned here it's an opiate blocker and is not an opioid. There is an option to take this medication as a monthly injection, and that is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, the drug prevents an individual from experience being high from opioids, and in turn lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily shot costs anywhere from $1000 to $1200 per month.
