DWI Clients - Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Centers - Council, NC.

DWI clients in treatment need specific requirements met to fulfill the conditions of their court sentencing. Rehab programs that help fulfill these requirements and conditions, which are typically more lenient than normal sentencing such as large fines and incarceration, are offered in Council to provide alcohol education, group counseling, and additional evaluation for clients with serious alcohol or drug issues.

Drug and Alcohol Education is a primary treatment tool used at rehab programs treating DWI offenders. There are different levels of alcohol education classes which can vary by state. Level I education generally consist of 12 hours of education about the effects of drugs and/or alcohol. This is the what a person with a first conviction or someone under 21 will ordinarily be required to do. Level II classes would include both substance abuse education and group therapy at a court approved program. How long an individual will be required to participate in therapy depends upon a few factors, which can be, for example, how many DWI's the offender has had, and the severity of the violation. Ordinarily, clients will be required to take the Level II classes and therapy except for when their blood-alcohol content level was very low when they were arrested and there were no other significant charges when the offender was arrested.
