Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Treatment Programs - Pleasant Hill, NC.

There are substance abuse programs available in or near Pleasant Hill that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, medications that are dispensed in what is known as opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist just like heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same nerve cell receptors which cause an individual to feel high from morphine or heroin are stimulated by these two drugs so that an opiate addicted client will ideally no longer engage in addict behavior and won't experience withdrawal symptoms. There are dangers with side effects, drug interactions, and even addiction and overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are highly controlled and can only be administered in a clinical setting.

Buprenorphine and methadone clients take these medications consistently so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but ideally at a dose which isn't also causing them to feel high. Euphoria can be experienced at a high dosage, more significantly with methadone than buprenorphine. At programs which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are limited beyond managing the medication and the main treatment objective is to treat the withdrawal symptoms and put an end to the illicit drug use. Some programs do offer a limited amount of counseling and group therapy as secondary treatment, and it is recommended and encouraged.
