Vivitrol Used in Treatment - Alcohol and Drug Treatment Centers - Carpio, ND.

Vivitrol is a medication used to help prevent drug dependency and relapse, and is administered specifically for alcohol and opioid drugs such as heroin and prescription medications. Vivitrol is an extended release version of the med Naltrexone, which is available via injection once a month. It is not addictive, and is what is called an antagonist. When someone injects Vivitrol, it cuts off the receptors that would normally be triggered by alcohol or opioids, so when an individual takes a drink of alcohol or tries to get high on opioids they essentially can't get high or drunk.

There are certain safety measures that should be be taken before an individual begins treatment with Vivitrol. Firstly, someone who plans to start Vivitrol must have been off of opioids for at least 7-10 days. This is including clients who are involved in opioid maintenance therapy and are being given drugs such as Methadone or Buprenorphine. For a heroin abuser or a person who has been taking Methadone for a long time, abrupt cessation is very difficult, but withdrawal is something they will have to go through for at least 7 days if they want to begin taking Vivitrol.

These medications must be used in conjunction with a rehab program in Carpio that also offers medical supervision, individual therapy, and group therapy. Talk to your doctor or therapist in regards to how pharmacological tools can help you live the drug and alcohol free life you want.
