Clients Referred from the Court - Alcohol and Drug Treatment Programs - New England, ND.

Clients referred from the court for substance abuse treatment are usually referred because they are being given a chance to accept treatment in lieu of jail time, other charges, fines, etc. Although this is more prevalent with first time offenders, it can be offered at any point including while the person is already incarcerated. There are different types of programs that criminal justice clients can be referred to, and it usually depends on what is local to New England and the type of substance the person requires treatment for.

There are rehab facilities that work directly with the criminal justice court system to administer to this explicit type of clientele, and are usually publicly-funded or are offered at no cost or very little cost to the client. There are also private drug and alcohol rehab facilities that might be authorized by the court if there is a specific type of rehabilitation that the client needs or desires that a different facility can't fulfill. The defendant's attorney can propose such options to the judge for approval. There are even addiction rehabilitation centers that operate out of the correctional facilities themselves, in which case clients are typically in a better position for early release or other leniencies when participating in addiction treatment services while serving their sentence for a drug offense or a DUI/DWI.
