Drug treatment services for the hearing impaired are available in both an inpatient and outpatient basis. Individuals with a hearing impairment can be at a greater risk of addiction problems due to their impairment. Having a significant impairment can be a source of discouragement, depression, unhappiness and apathy for both adults and adolescents who may turn to alcohol or drugs to cope with these feelings. Hearing impaired rehab services are available in Grant to help resolve addiction for these clients, with ASL and other assistance which offers recovery and treatment information and education in writing so that clients aren't prevented from getting better due to their disability.
Drug and alcohol rehab programs that have full time staff to assist the hearing impaired are the most appropriate facilities to select. Some rehabs may only employ part-time staff to interpret and assist hearing impaired clients, and this means hearing impaired clients may not make as much progress as everyone else and will miss out on vital activities they should be attending every day. There could be video presentations offered which use sign language as well, which is also extremely helpful.
There are organizations and agencies which can provide hearing impaired people suffering with addiction with information and resources to discover and locate the recovery services they need. One is the Deaf Off Drugs and Alcohol (DODA).
