An opioid treatment facility can receive initial certification while they endeavor to get their full accreditation, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid treatment programs accredited by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. In addition, they must register with the Drug Enforcement Administration via a local DEA branch. Once an opioid rehabilitation facility is approved to operate, it must be re-certified every year or every 3 years contingent upon the kind of certification it has been granted.
