Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Programs - Strafford, NH.

There are addiction programs available in or near Strafford that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, medications which are dispensed in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same nerve cell receptors that make a person feel high from heroin or prescription pain killers are activated by these two drugs so therefore an opiate addicted client will ideally no longer become involved in drug seeking behavior and won't have withdrawal symptoms. There are dangers with side effects, drug interactions, and even addiction and overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are heavily regulated and can only be dispensed in a clinical setting.

Methadone and buprenorphine clients are on these medications consistently so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but ideally at a dosage which isn't also making them feel euphoria. Euphoria is possible at a high dosage, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At programs that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are generally limited beyond this and the main treatment objective is to manage the withdrawal symptoms and put an end to the illicit drug use. Some clinics do provide a limited amount of counseling and group therapy as auxiliary services, and this is encouraged.
