The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency in charge of efforts to advance the mental health of the United States. One of its responsibilities is the oversight of opioid treatment facilities, which are programs that offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to clients who are experiencing opioid dependency and addiction. Drug prescribed are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs that help withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid dependent clients.
