The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department in charge of health efforts to advance the mental health of the United States. One of its responsibilities is the oversight of opioid treatment facilities, which are centers which provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are in the midst of opioid dependency and addiction. Medicine given are drugs such as buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs that stop withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid addicted individuals.
