One of the out-patient rehab options for individuals in New Egypt who are battling with opioid dependence and addiction is called opioid maintenance therapy. Licensed facilities and doctors are authorized to dispense specific medications to opioid addicted people, many that are opioids themselves and are habit forming. With low enough doses the user doesn't experience being high and also does not experience intense cravings and isn't experiencing opioid withdrawal. Methadone is the first medication tried for this reason, but there are a few more options to pick from.
Methadone is an opiate and can be taken at an outpatient medical center certified to administer the med, that is taken daily as a pill or liquid. The price of the drug is about $150 per month. Buprenorphine is also an opioid-based med, and is a pill often taken every other day. But different from Methadone that can only be given in highly well-regulated clinics, Buprenorphine can be prescribed and administered in doctor's offices. The cost monthly of buprenorphine is around just under $300 monthly for the generic version of the drug. There is also a type of buprenorphine that contains naloxone, which is a drug that blocks the effects of opiates. A person consuming this formulation, also known as Suboxone, would find it harder to get high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It is also taken every day, and costs about $450 per month. Naltrexone is an additional med used in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other medications aforementioned it's an opioid blocker and is not an opioid. There is an option to take this drug as a monthly shot, which is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, the drug prevents someone from getting high from opioids, and therefore lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily injection costs in the range of $1000 to $1200 /month.
