The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department in charge of efforts to promote the behavioral health of the United States. One of its responsibilities is the administering of opioid rehabilitation programs, which are programs who provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to individuals who are in the midst of opioid addiction and dependency. Drug administered are drugs like methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs that help withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid addicted clients. SAMSHA certified opioid rehab programs in Port Republic are programs which are officially allowed to distribute the medicines used in MAT being they maintain their certification and always maintain the necessary requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT individuals must also get ancillary services in addition to medicine such as psychotherapy, behavioral therapy or counseling.

An opioid rehab facility can receive initial certification while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid treatment programs accredited by SAMSHA need to get licensed also by their own state. Likewise, they must register with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA branch. Once an opioid treatment center is approved to operate, it must be re-certified every year or every 3 years contingent upon the type of accreditation it has been given.
