Vivitrol Used in Treatment - Drug and Alcohol Rehab Programs - Three Bridges, NJ.

Vivitrol is a med used to prevent drug dependency and relapse, and is used specifically for alcohol and opioid drugs such as heroin and prescription pain killers. Vivitrol is an extended release version of the med Naltrexone, that one can get through a monthly injection. It isn't addictive, and is what is known as an antagonist. When an individual takes Vivitrol, it blocks the receptors that would normally be triggered by opioids or alcohol, so when an individual drinks alcohol or tries to get high on opioids they essentially can't get drunk or high.

There are certain precautions that need to be taken before someone begins treatment with Vivitrol. First off, a client who intends to begin Vivitrol needs to have abstained from opioids for at least seven to ten days. This includes clients who are participating in opioid maintenance therapy and are taking medications such as Buprenorphine or Methadone. For a heroin addict or someone who has been taking Methadone for a long time, quitting quickly can be brutal, but withdrawal is something they will have to go through for at least 7 days in order to begin taking Vivitrol.

These drugs must be used as part of a rehab program in Three Bridges which also includes individual therapy, group therapy and medical supervision. Speak with your therapist or doctor about how pharmacological aids can help you live the sober life you want.
