Medicaid is an insurance program for low-income households that because of the Affordable Care Act must cover standard drug and alcohol treatment. Medicaid is presently the single largest payer for mental health treatment services in the country, and is beginning to play an important role in the reimbursements of substance abuse treatment services. Medicaid subscribers may want to bear in mind that while this is the case, not all rehab programs accept Medicaid. At facilities which do accept Medicaid, clients won't have co-payments in most states. For states which do charge co-pays, there are limits to the out-of-pocket expenses for subscribers.
