The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency in charge of efforts to promote the behavioral health of the nation. One of its responsibilities is the oversight of opioid rehab facilities, which are programs which provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are in the midst of opioid dependency and addiction. Medications prescribed are drugs such as buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs that help curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid addicted people. SAMSHA certified opioid treatment facilities in Albuquerque are programs which are officially allowed to dispense the drugs used in MAT being they remain certified and continue to meet certain requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT clients must also receive auxiliary benefits in addition to medicine such as counseling or behavioral therapy.
An opioid treatment center can get their basic approval documentation while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid rehab programs accredited by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. In addition, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA branch. Once an opioid treatment facility is approved to operate, it must be re-certified each year or every three years depending on the kind of accreditation it has been granted.
