The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency in charge of health efforts to advance the behavioral health of the nation. One of its duties is the oversight of opioid treatment programs, which are centers that provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are experiencing opioid addiction and dependency. Drug administered are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs which stop curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid dependent clients. An opioid treatment center can get their initial approval documentation while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year.
