Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Rehab Facilities - Davenport Center, NY.

There are substance abuse programs offered in or near Davenport Center that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, medications that are used in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same neural receptors that make a person feel high from morphine or heroin are activated by these two drugs so that an opioid dependent client will instead no longer engage in drug seeking behavior and won't have withdrawal symptoms. There are risks of side effects, drug interactions, and even overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are heavily controlled and can only be administered in a clinical setting.

Methadone and buprenorphine clients are on these medications daily so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but ideally at a dose which isn't also causing them to feel high. Euphoria can be experienced at at higher dosages, more significantly with methadone than buprenorphine. At centers which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are limited beyond this and the main treatment objective is to manage the withdrawal symptoms and put an end to the illicit drug use. Some programs do offer a small amount of counseling and group therapy as auxiliary treatment, and this is recommended and encouraged.
