Medicare comes in different "Parts", with Parts A-D covering different forms of care.
Part A (Insurance for Hospital Stays) - Medicare Part A pays for inpatient drug and alcohol treatment, and up to 60 days in rehab without a co-pay but policy holders will be required to pay a deductible. Medicare only covers 190 days of inpatient care total, as in during the individual's lifetime.
Part B (Medical Insurance) ? Medicare Part B pays up to 80% of the expenses for outpatient substance abuse rehabilitation. This includes outpatient services, therapy, treatment for co-occurring mental health disorders such as anxiety disorders or depression and medications dispensed by clinics. It also pays for professional intervention services.
Part C (Medicare-approved Private Insurance) Medicare Part D is an alternative for clients who want supplemental coverage apart from Medicare Parts A, B, and D. Individuals who have Part C may have more insurance benefits available to them, but out-of-pocket costs and coverage is different and may be more expensive.
Part D (Prescription Insurance) Medicare Part D covers drug and alcohol addiction medications. Including medications associated with treating withdrawal symptoms during detoxification as well as medications required for maintenance therapy such as methadone or buprenorphine.
