Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Facilities - Ada, OH.

There are programs available in or near Ada that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, controlled medications which are used in what is known as opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist just like heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same nerve cell receptors which make a person feel high from morphine or heroin are stimulated by these two drugs so that an opioid addicted client will ideally no longer engage in drug seeking behavior and won't have withdrawal symptoms. There are risks of drug interactions, side effects, and even overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are highly controlled and can only be dispensed in a clinical setting.

Methadone and buprenorphine clients are on these medications daily so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but hopefully at a dosage which isn't also causing them to feel high. Euphoria is possible at a high dosage, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At programs that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are generally limited beyond this and the main treatment objective is to address the withdrawal symptoms and put an end to the illicit drug use. Some programs do offer a small amount of counseling and therapy as auxiliary services, and this is encouraged.
