Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Rehab Centers - Canton, OH.

There are programs offered in or near Canton which service both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, drugs which are administered in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same neural receptors which make a person feel high from heroin or prescription pain killers are stimulated by these two drugs so that an opiate dependent client will ideally not become involved in addict behavior and won't experience cravings and withdrawal. There are risks of drug interactions, side effects, and even addiction and overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are highly controlled and can only be administered in a clinical setting.

Methadone and buprenorphine clients are on these medications regularly so they don't experience cravings, withdrawal, etc. but ideally at a dose which isn't at the same time causing them to feel high. Euphoria is possible at a high dosage, more significantly with methadone than buprenorphine. At centers which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are limited beyond this and the main treatment goal is to treat the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some clinics do deliver a limited amount of counseling and group therapy as auxiliary services, and it is recommended and encouraged.
