Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Treatment Centers - Coldwater, OH.

There are programs available in or near Coldwater that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, controlled medications that are administered in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same nerve cell receptors that make a person feel high from heroin or prescription pain killers are activated by these two drugs so therefore an opiate dependent client will instead not become involved in addict behavior and won't have withdrawal symptoms. There are dangers with drug interactions, side effects, and even addiction and overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are heavily regulated and can only be prescribed in a clinical setting.

Methadone and buprenorphine clients are on these medications regularly so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but hopefully at a dose which isn't at the same time causing them to feel high. Euphoria can be experienced at a high dosage, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At programs that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are generally limited beyond this and the main treatment objective is to manage the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some programs do offer a limited amount of counseling and group therapy as supplementary treatment, and this is encouraged.
