The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency in charge of efforts to advance the mental health of the United States. One of its duties is the oversight of opioid treatment facilities, which are programs which offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to individuals who are experiencing opioid dependency and addiction. Medicine given are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs which help curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid addicted clients.
