Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Drug and Alcohol Rehab Facilities - Continental, OH.

There are substance abuse programs offered in or near Continental which service both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, drugs which are used in what is known as opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist just like heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same nerve cell receptors that cause an individual to feel high from morphine or heroin are stimulated by these two drugs so that an opioid dependent client will instead no longer engage in addict behavior and won't experience cravings and withdrawal. There are dangers with side effects, drug interactions, and even addiction and overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are highly controlled and can only be administered in a clinical setting.

Buprenorphine and methadone clients take these medications consistently so they don't experience cravings, withdrawal, etc. but hopefully at a dosage which isn't at the same time causing them to feel high. Euphoria is possible at at higher dosages, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At programs that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, actual rehabilitation activities and therapies are generally limited beyond managing the medication and the primary treatment objective is to manage the withdrawal symptoms and put an end to the illicit drug use. Some programs do deliver a small amount of counseling and therapy as supplementary treatment, and it is recommended and encouraged.
