Medicare comes in different "Parts", with Parts A-D covering certain types of treatment.
Part A (Insurance for Hospital Stays) - Medicare Part A pays for inpatient substance treatment, and up to 60 days in treatment without a co-pay but policy holders will have to pay a deductible. Medicare only covers 190 days of inpatient care total, as in during the person's lifetime.
Part B (Medical Insurance) ? Medicare Part B covers up to 80% of the costs for outpatient drug and alcohol rehabilitation. This includes outpatient care, therapy/counseling, treatment for co-occurring mental health disorders such as anxiety disorders or depression and medications administered by clinics. It also covers professional interventions.
Part C (Medicare-approved Private Insurance) Medicare Part D is an alternative for individuals who want additional health insurance aside from Medicare Parts A, B, and D. People who have Part C can have more insurance benefits available to them, but out-of-pocket costs and coverage is different and may be more expensive.
Part D (Prescription Insurance) Medicare Part D covers substance abuse related medications. Including medications associated with treating drug and alcohol withdrawal as well as those required for maintenance therapy such as methadone or buprenorphine.
