Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Treatment Programs - Jewell, OH.

There are substance abuse programs available in or near Jewell which service both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, drugs which are dispensed in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same neural receptors which cause an individual to feel high from morphine or heroin are stimulated by these two drugs so that an opiate dependent client will ideally no longer engage in drug seeking behavior and won't have withdrawal symptoms. There are dangers with side effects, drug interactions, and even overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are highly regulated and can only be dispensed in a clinical setting.

Buprenorphine and methadone clients are on these medications consistently so they don't experience cravings, withdrawal, etc. but ideally at a dosage which isn't also making them feel euphoria. Euphoria can be experienced at at higher dosages, more significantly with methadone than buprenorphine. At centers which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are generally limited beyond managing the medication and the primary treatment goal is to handle the withdrawal symptoms and put an end to the illicit drug use. Some clinics do offer a small amount of counseling and therapy as secondary services, and it is recommended and encouraged.
