Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Drug and Alcohol Rehab Programs - Logan, OH.

There are substance abuse programs offered in or near Logan that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, drugs which are administered in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, which means the same neural receptors which make a person feel high from morphine or heroin are stimulated by these two drugs so that an opiate addicted client will ideally not become involved in addict behavior and won't experience cravings and withdrawal. There are dangers with drug interactions, side effects, and even overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are highly regulated and can only be dispensed in a clinical setting.

Methadone and buprenorphine clients are on these medications regularly so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but ideally at a dosage which isn't at the same time making them feel euphoria. Euphoria occurs at at higher dosages, more significantly with methadone than buprenorphine. At centers that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are limited beyond managing the medication and the main treatment goal is to handle the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some programs do provide a small amount of counseling and therapy as secondary treatment, and this is encouraged.
