The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department responsible for health efforts to advance the mental health of the U.S.. One of its obligations is the administering of opioid rehab facilities, which are programs who provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are in the midst of opioid dependency and addiction. Medications administered are drugs like buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs which stop withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid addicted clients. SAMSHA certified opioid rehabilitation facilities in Moscow are programs who are legally permitted to distribute the medications used in MAT being they maintain their certification and continue to meet certain requirements. A requirement that MAT clients must also receive ancillary services in addition to medicine such as psychotherapy, behavioral therapy or counseling.

An opioid rehab program can receive initial approval documentation while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid rehabilitation facilities authorized by SAMSHA need to get licensed also by their own state. Likewise, they must register with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA branch. Once an opioid rehabilitation program is approved to operate, it must be re-certified every year or every three years depending on the type of accreditation it has been given.
