Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Facilities - Niles, OH.

There are substance abuse programs available in or near Niles that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, medications which are administered in what is known as opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist just like heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, which means the same neural receptors that make a person feel high from heroin or prescription pain killers are stimulated by these two drugs so therefore an opioid dependent client will ideally no longer engage in drug seeking behavior and won't have cravings and withdrawal. There are dangers with side effects, drug interactions, and even overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are highly controlled and can only be prescribed in a clinical setting.

Methadone and buprenorphine clients are on these medications daily so they don't experience cravings, withdrawal, etc. but ideally at a dose which isn't at the same time making them feel euphoria. Euphoria is possible at at higher dosages, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At programs which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are limited beyond managing the medication and the primary treatment objective is to manage the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some programs do offer a limited amount of counseling and group therapy as secondary services, and it is encouraged.
