Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Centers - Norwalk, OH.

There are recovery programs offered in or near Norwalk that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, medications which are used in what is known as opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, which means the same neural receptors that make a person feel high from morphine or heroin are stimulated by these two drugs so therefore an opioid addicted client will ideally not engage in drug seeking behavior and won't have cravings and withdrawal. There are risks of drug interactions, side effects, and even overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are highly regulated and can only be administered in a clinical setting.

Buprenorphine and methadone clients take these medications regularly so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but ideally at a dosage which isn't also causing them to feel high. Euphoria is possible at at higher dosages, more significantly with methadone than buprenorphine. At clinics which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are generally limited beyond this and the primary treatment goal is to address the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some centers do offer a limited amount of counseling and therapy as secondary services, and it is encouraged.
