Detox - Alcohol and Drug Treatment Programs - Ontario, OH.

When an individual is quitting drugs or alcohol, they will likely feel symptoms of withdrawal as their body detoxes. Detox can be performed in a medically supervised detox facility or rehab center so that the individual has fully removed the drugs from their system and they are physically and mentally balanced, and undoubtedly off drugs and alcohol.

There are a few different types of detox in or near Ontario that clients can choose from. Different substances present different withdrawal symptoms, and certain individuals may be at risk of dangerous side effects of withdrawal and likely need closer monitoring and more intensive engagement. In any case, anyone detoxing or making the decision to get off of drugs or stop drinking should always do so at a qualified facility and not on their own. This is because of the many risks associated in some cases, but also because it reduces the risks associated with relapse. A relapse during detoxification can at times result in an unintended overdose, so receiving supervised detox services and having access to an extensive system of support could literally save the person's life.

Some facilities provide a holistic and natural detoxification, when it isn't likely that there might be any risks or health hazards based off of the individual's current drug use and current state of health. Even some of the more serious physical addictions, like heroin addiction, are not life-threatening but present extreme withdrawal symptoms in the beginning stages of detox. These symptoms alleviate within a few days on their own and can be done without medications of any kind through a natural, holistic detoxification.

Medical detox is performed in an inpatient setting with the use of prescription medications. This could be required for an individual who is suffering from alcoholism and will need medication to prevent life-threatening withdrawal symptoms, which is also the case with certain prescription medications that people get addicted to. Medically assisted detox might also be preferred among opiate addicted clients, who would prefer to receive medications to temporarily alleviate opiate withdrawal symptoms as they come off of heroin or prescription opiate medications.
