Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Drug and Alcohol Rehab Centers - Rockford, OH.

There are programs offered in or near Rockford which service both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, drugs which are dispensed in what is known as opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist just like heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same nerve cell receptors which cause an individual to feel high from morphine or heroin are activated by these two drugs so that an opiate dependent client will instead no longer become involved in drug seeking behavior and won't have cravings and withdrawal. There are dangers with drug interactions, side effects, and even addiction and overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are highly regulated and can only be prescribed in a clinical setting.

Methadone and buprenorphine clients are on these medications regularly so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but ideally at a dose which isn't also causing them to feel euphoria. Euphoria is possible at at higher dosages, more significantly with methadone than buprenorphine. At centers which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are generally limited beyond this and the primary treatment objective is to treat the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some programs do provide a small amount of counseling and group therapy as supplementary treatment, and this is encouraged.
