Outpatient Methadone Buprenorphine or Vivitrol - Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Facilities - Ames, OK.

One of the out-patient treatment alternatives for clients in Ames battling with opioid dependence and addiction is opioid maintenance therapy. Some centers and doctors are certified to dispense certain meds to opioid dependent clients, many that are opioid-based themselves and are addictive. In low amounts however, the client does not experience being high and also does not have acute cravings and isn't in opioid withdrawal. Methadone is the first drug administered for this reason, but there are a few more options currently to choose from.

Methadone is an opioid and can be taken at an out-patient clinic certified to administer the drug, that is taken on a daily basis in liquid or pill form. The cost of the med is about under $200 per month. Buprenorphine is also an opioid-based med, and is in pill form often taken one day on, one day off. But unlike Methadone that can only be given in highly well-regulated clinics, Buprenorphine can be prescribed and dispensed in doctor's offices. The cost monthly of buprenorphine is about $300 a month for the generic version of the drug. There is also a type of buprenorphine that contains naloxone, which is a med which blocks the effects of opiates. Someone taking this formulation, also known as Suboxone, would find it harder to get high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It too is taken every day, and is priced around $450 /month. Naltrexone is another medication taken in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other drugs mentioned it's an opiate blocker and isn't an opiate. There is an option to take this medication as a monthly shot, which is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, it prevents a person from feeling high from opioids, and therefore lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily injection costs in the range of $1000 to $1200 per month.
