The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency responsible for efforts to advance the behavioral health of the U.S.. One of its duties is the oversight of opioid treatment programs, which are centers who provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are in the midst of opioid addiction and dependency. Drug prescribed are drugs such as buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs that help curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid dependent clients. SAMSHA certified opioid treatment facilities in Lahoma are programs who are legally permitted to distribute the drugs used in MAT as long as they remain certified and continue to meet certain requirements. A requirement that MAT clients must also receive ancillary benefits aside from medication such as counseling or behavioral therapy.

An opioid rehab center can receive basic certification while they endeavor to get their full accreditation, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid rehab facilities authorized by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. Likewise, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration via a local DEA office. Once an opioid treatment center is certified, they need to get re-certified each year or every 3 years depending on the type of certification that was given.
