Regular outpatient rehab is usually a less costly alternative to more intensive outpatient options or inpatient rehab, and is the least intense of formal alcohol or drug rehabilitation available in Panama. Some people are attending rehab for their first time and have picked regular outpatient because that is all they can afford and commitment to time wise and scheduling because of work, school or other obligations. For some, regular outpatient is a step down to service following treatment in a more intense outpatient center like a partial hospitalization or in-patient program.
Regular outpatient rehabilitation services usually have group and individual counseling services occurring once or twice a week. Facilities which offer a wider range of services may include counseling (CBT) to help with relapse prevention and dual-diagnosis services to help respond to co-occurring addiction and mental health issues. How long someone remains involved in rehab can change from client to client, and a person's improvement can be evaluated from time to time and more rehab can be recommended based on these evaluations.
In many situations, a regular outpatient rehabilitation program is going to be deficient in intensity for someone who is addressing a severe substance abuse issue and has not experienced recovery previously or has relapsed following previous outpatient recovery.
