Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Centers - Perkins, OK.

There are addiction programs offered in or near Perkins which service both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, medications that are used in what is known as opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same nerve cell receptors which make a person feel high from heroin or prescription pain killers are stimulated by these two drugs so therefore an opiate addicted client will instead not engage in addict behavior and won't have cravings and withdrawal. There are dangers with side effects, drug interactions, and even addiction and overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are highly regulated and can only be prescribed in a clinical setting.

Buprenorphine and methadone clients are on these medications consistently so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but hopefully at a dose which isn't also making them feel high. Euphoria is possible at at higher dosages, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At programs that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, actual rehabilitation activities and therapies are limited beyond managing the medication and the main treatment goal is to handle the withdrawal symptoms and put an end to the illicit drug use. Some centers do provide a limited amount of counseling and group therapy as supplementary treatment, and this is encouraged.
