The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency responsible for efforts to promote the mental health of the U.S.. One of its responsibilities is the supervision of opioid rehab programs, which are centers that provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to individuals who are experiencing opioid addiction and dependency. Drug administered are drugs such as buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs which stop withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid dependent individuals. An opioid rehab program can get their initial approval documentation while working towards becoming fully accredited, however, are required to get their full accreditation in a year. Opioid rehabilitation programs accredited by SAMSHA need to get licensed also by their own state. Likewise, they must register with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA office. Once an opioid treatment center is certified, they need to get re-certified every year or every 3 years contingent upon the type of accreditation it has been given.
