Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Treatment Facilities - Yukon, OK.

There are addiction programs offered in or near Yukon which service both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, controlled medications which are administered in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist just like heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, which means the same nerve cell receptors that cause an individual to feel high from morphine or heroin are activated by these two drugs so therefore an opiate dependent client will instead not become involved in drug seeking behavior and won't experience withdrawal symptoms. There are dangers with side effects, drug interactions, and even addiction and overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are heavily controlled and can only be prescribed in a clinical setting.

Buprenorphine and methadone clients take these medications daily so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but ideally at a dosage which isn't also making them feel euphoria. Euphoria is possible at at higher dosages, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At centers that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, actual rehabilitation activities and therapies are generally limited beyond this and the main treatment goal is to handle the withdrawal symptoms and put an end to the illicit drug use. Some centers do offer a limited amount of counseling and therapy as supplementary services, and it is encouraged.
