There is also a type of buprenorphine that contains the ingredient naloxone, that is a med that blocks the effects of opioids. Someone taking this version of the drug, also known as Suboxone, would find it more difficult to get high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It too is taken daily, and costs around $450 monthly. Naltrexone is an additional medication used in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other medications mentioned it's an opiate blocker and isn't an opiate. There is an option to take this drug as a monthly shot, and that is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, the drug prevents someone from experience being high from opioids, and therefore lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily shot costs in the range of $1000 to $1200 a month.
