Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Treatment Centers - Lakeview, OR.

There are programs offered in or near Lakeview which service both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, drugs that are administered in what is known as opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist just like heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same neural receptors which make a person feel high from morphine or heroin are stimulated by these two drugs so that an opiate dependent client will instead not engage in addict behavior and won't experience withdrawal symptoms. There are dangers with side effects, drug interactions, and even overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are heavily controlled and can only be dispensed in a clinical setting.

Buprenorphine and methadone clients take these medications consistently so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but hopefully at a dosage which isn't also causing them to feel high. Euphoria occurs at at higher dosages, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At programs that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, actual rehabilitation activities and therapies are limited beyond managing the medication and the primary treatment goal is to treat the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some clinics do deliver a limited amount of counseling and therapy as secondary treatment, and this is recommended and encouraged.
